WWII Stories

Collecting WWII Stories
For centuries, Curaçao has served as a refuge for Jews escaping persecution. The 1930s and 1940s saw a new wave of Jewish refugees fleeing antisemitism and, later, the Holocaust. The island became a vital link in the Allied war effort. In this place, stories of survival, heroism, loss, and resilience intersected, creating a distinct chapter in global history.

This exhibit shares the stories of the Jewish community in Curaçao during WWII and the Holocaust. Each narrative, whether of those born on the island or those who arrived before, during, or after the war, reflects the complexity of our experiences during 1940 and 1945.
